Problem Statement

Currently, there is a lack of a centralized system to manage alumni records, track graduate achievements, and facilitate efficient communication between the Institute of Computer Science and its alumni. Existing alumni relations are mostly limited to university organizations, creating inefficiencies when organizing reunions, managing fundraising campaigns, and providing career networking opportunities.

Key Features

  • Dynamic Profile Management & Search: Alumni can manage personal, educational, and career information while controlling public or private visibility. Users can search for fellow graduates using filters such as graduation year, industry, location, and skills.
  • Interactive Alumni Map: Mapping services such as the Google Maps API visually represent the global locations of alumni based on their updated profiles.
  • Job Posting & Career Opportunities: Verified alumni and administrators can post, manage, and apply for exclusive job opportunities within the ICS community.
  • Event & Donation Management: Users can propose, RSVP to, bookmark, and like events. Approved events can enable donations through a dedicated module with progress tracking, donor lists, and multiple payment methods.
  • Centralized Communications: Administrators can deploy newsletters and announcements through email, in-app alerts, homepage banners, or pinned posts.
  • Automated Reports & Analytics: Admins can generate real-time reports on employment status, salary ranges, career paths, and industry distribution, then visualize and export them as PDFs.

Design & Development

ICSync was developed as a cloud-based platform with a responsive frontend, connected backend services, and centralized data storage. Its modular architecture supports alumni records, community interactions, communications, analytics, and secure administration through integrated APIs and role-based access.

1

Responsive Frontend Architecture

Next.js provides server-side rendering and fast performance, with Tailwind CSS v4.0 and ShadCN/UI delivering a clean, accessible interface hosted on Vercel.

2

Analytics & Report Generation

Chart.js powers visual alumni analytics, while jsPDF enables administrators to export statistical reports as PDFs.

3

Backend & Database Services

Node.js 22.11.0 and Express.js run the backend on Render, while Firebase Firestore provides centralized records and real-time synchronization.

4

Authentication & File Storage

Firebase Storage manages file uploads, and OAuth 2.0 through Google Authentication provides secure, role-based access control.

5

RESTful System Integration

RESTful APIs connect the Next.js client with cloud-native backend services for reliable communication across profiles, jobs, events, donations, and reports.

Impact & Outcomes

By centralizing alumni records and communications, ICSync makes reunions, fundraising campaigns, and career networking significantly more efficient for the institute and its graduates. Its architecture is designed to support multiple concurrent users while maintaining fast profile updates, searches, and data queries. Comprehensive analytics and automated reporting give administrators a centralized view of alumni engagement, donation trends, and career trajectories.
